"Ok, I was somewhat skeptical. There's bin a virtual flood of wool baselayers on the market and I've tried most of them (Icebreaker, Smartwool, Pagatonia, Ibex, and OR-Climawool blend). Now that winter has past, but morning temps still cool, The North Face Softwool 1/4 Zip (& crew) I bought are still in use. The wear options are endless: Softwool under lt. wt. softshell for hikes, Softwool under windshirt for cool morning runs, Softwool as standalone shirt for warmer (55-70) walks, Softwool under fleece for frosty mornings, even a rainy day attempt up The Lion's Head w/ 38 deg. under a rain shell (sunny day at Tux day before preferred). They wash well, and sans the fuzzy navel effect, hopefully will last a long time, but if not, The North Face Lifetime Warranty is rock solid. Def. rec. this item, was skeptical, but sold on this solid Summit Series product."

"This wool base layer is a solid performer. Extremely light, very warm, it breaths well and resists odor as advertised. In fact, if you are working hard on 20 degree F or below days, you will only need a shell over this. I had to strip off my middle layer. It dries very quickly. The thumb holes provide excellent coverage and extra warmth for your hands and stop the sleeves from riding up under other layers. I hope that TNF uses this wool in other styles and weights."
